Construction & engineering
Structural systems, installation methods, materials and performance constraints.
Our specialist team identifies qualifying advances, documents technological uncertainty and prepares evidence-led claims under the merged RDEC and Enhanced R&D Intensive Support schemes.
A structured process built around HMRC's definition of an advance in science or technology and the evidence expected from a competent professional.
We establish the accounting period, confirm whether merged RDEC or ERIS applies, and check whether claim notification is required.
We speak with the engineers, designers or technical leads who understand the field, the baseline capability and why a solution was not readily deducible.
Each project is scoped around the scientific or technological advance sought, the uncertainties encountered, and the trials undertaken to resolve them.
Staff, consumables, software, data, cloud, externally provided workers and subcontracted R&D are reviewed, apportioned and evidenced under the applicable rules.
We prepare the project descriptions, cost analysis and mandatory Additional Information Form so the technical position and figures reconcile.
The claim is coordinated with the CT600 and, where required, CT600L. We retain the evidence trail and handle HMRC questions about the submission.
Sector experience helps us ask the right questions, but eligibility always depends on the advance and uncertainty within the individual project.
Structural systems, installation methods, materials and performance constraints.
Process control, tooling, automation, tolerances and material performance.
Lower-impact materials, waste reduction and resource-efficient systems.
Generation, storage, thermal performance and system integration.
Polymer profiles, coatings, seals, fabrication and installation performance.
The claim concerned a targeted improvement to a specialist polymer used in window manufacture and application. The project tested how a small change to the material formulation and application method could improve adhesion and long-term durability without disrupting established production tolerances.
We documented the existing technological baseline, the material-behaviour uncertainty, the iterative trials and the qualifying development costs. That evidence-led submission secured £253,000 for the company.
Previous outcomes do not guarantee future relief; every claim depends on its facts, accounting period and applicable scheme.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2024, claims are generally made under the merged RDEC scheme or Enhanced R&D Intensive Support for eligible loss-making, R&D-intensive SMEs. We confirm the correct treatment before any figures are prepared.
